What’s your title with Seakeeper?

Senior Embedded Software Engineer

Briefly describe your role at Seakeeper as if you were explaining it to someone in another department. What’s your day-to-day like? What’s your piece in the Seakeeper puzzle?

I’m based in the UK office in Bournemouth. We develop and support software features for the Ride ‘Software Module’ and supporting tools. We are also involved in the Gyro development and the Engineering Data Logger.

What were you doing before you joined the Seakeeper team?

I’ve always worked on embedded software development, initially in automotive as well as transportation and industrial software.

When did you start at Seakeeper?

January 2024

How have things changed since then?

Initially I was working remotely. We now have a fully-fledged UK office, with two new UK colleagues and a growing variety of new projects to work on.

What’s the most interesting or challenging job you’ve been confronted with at Seakeeper?

I found the trip to Fort Myers interesting – to see ‘Ride’ in action is amazing! We constantly have interesting problems to solve in software, developing features and trying to predict what the end user may do with them!

What is one of your biggest personal accomplishments at Seakeeper?

The first task I was given was to add a CAN datalogger to the ‘Software Module’. It captures CAN data (CAN stands for Controller Area Network, it’s an automotive bus known for its robustness and resilience) continuously as well as saving specific events (such as faults) which can be analyzed with PC tools. This feature proved so useful its scope was extended to capture ‘Sea trial’ data.

What do you like most about working at Seakeeper?

The product, the team, the environment.

What do you find most challenging about your particular role?

We’re currently updating our tools and technology. The nature of software development means that we are always in a state of flux, which is both interesting and challenging.

Our company is growing fast—what advice would you give to new hires?

Don’t be afraid to ask questions, everyone is very helpful and supportive.

Who’s one person at Seakeeper that’s had the greatest impact on your time here?

My boss, James Attewell. He’s incredibly busy but always makes time to help and support.

Do you have a personal motto or mantra? What is it? Why?

I don’t. If I did, it’d be ‘if at first you don’t succeed, try and try again’. You learn a lot from your mistakes.

Tell us something about yourself that would surprise the rest of us.

I own a three-legged dog called Boo.
