What’s your title with Seakeeper?

CNC Machine Operator

Briefly describe your role at Seakeeper as if you were explaining it to someone in another department. What’s your day-to-day like? What’s your piece in the Seakeeper puzzle?

It is one of the earlier steps in the process to make the Seakeeper -to remove material from bearing housings so that the flywheel can sit comfortably when the bearings are installed and allow it to spin with minimal interference. We inspect the enclosures as well so we have the proper tolerances to grind the housings so they fit inside the enclosures properly.

What were you doing before you joined the Seakeeper team?

I was a dock handler at the Reading Hospital and also transported hazardous waste. I also was an EMT for a short while.

When did you start at Seakeeper?

December 2024

How have things changed since then?

Seakeeper had only been here about two years when I got here and they were still establishing areas. Now everything is much more organized and streamlined with the automated systems

What’s the most interesting or challenging job you’ve been confronted with at Seakeeper?

I was new to CNC grinding when I came here. This was a jump going from milling machines to the large vertical grinders we have here.

What do you like most about working at Seakeeper?

The people! I love the people. People are down to earth, they have great personalities, are funny, and they’re glad to come to work!

Our company is growing fast—what advice would you give to new hires?

There’s a lot of terminology that people use here- referencing gyroscopes, bearing, rotating cooling collars, just to name a few. It’s confusing at first but remember to ask when you don’t understand and you’ll be able to understand what people mean much easier than being silent. Definitely ask questions when you don’t understand a step in the process of building a Seakeeper.

Who’s one person at Seakeeper that’s had the greatest impact on your time here?

Definitely Shane Galway, Chad Davis, Mark Fritz, Wyatt Haupt, and Hunter Mayfield in AMO. I started in AMO and everyone in AMO helped me when I first started here to help me understand the building of the Seakeeper and being hands on. Now I really understand the building of the Seakeeper and the processes behind it. Now that I’m in Machining – Erik Lehman, Dakota Price and Marc Luongo. Without them I wouldn’t be here in Machining. They did such a great job training me so I understand everything.

Do you have a personal motto or mantra? What is it? Why?

Always give it 100%! It’s how I live. I don’t ever like giving less than 100%.

Tell us something about yourself that would surprise the rest of us.

I help take care of and train horses. My family has a horse named Atlas that my sister has been training on to go to national competitions for jumping.
