Field Service Technician – Level I

Role and Responsibilities

The Field Service Technician will report directly to the Service Manager-Americas or assigned Supervisor. The Field Service Technician works directly with Seakeepers’ service and warranty staff to provide support, field service, commissioning, repairs, and boat maintenance duties for Seakeeper demo/R&D boats and all other Seakeeper products in the field.

Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

-Gather data and information relating to the service to be performed.

-Contact vessel builder, dealer, owner, or operator to confirm scheduling and availability.

-Organize a list of all equipment, parts, and tools needed to complete the assigned task.

-Discuss shipping of parts/tools, if needed, to service location

-Complete and submit detailed Service Case Reports and Commissioning Report forms in accordance with Seakeeper procedures.

  •  A commissioning may include a sea trial, whenever possible.
  • All data gathered should be organized for presentation to Sales & Service staff.
  • Must be able to lift 70+ lbs.
  • Must be able to drive extended distances, periodically up to 8 hours each way or take an airline flight to service location.

-Provide service and support for Seakeeper’s Demo and R&D fleets.

  • Includes all aspects of performing regular boat maintenance such as complete wash-down, towing, trailer maintenance, engine maintenance, and other required tasks.
  • Towing includes launching boat from trailer and transporting via trailer demo/R&D boats to and from marinas or other specified locations.
  • Repair and maintenance of Seakeepers installed on demo/R&D boat fleet.

-Support team with answering any incoming calls or electronic communication and following up accordingly.

-Assist with inventory organization at assigned locations. Including cycle counting, keeping inventory stocked, orderly and labeled.

-Keep clean and organized service tool kits.

-The technician must maintain the highest standards of safety, quality of work, personal presentation, vehicle presentation, and uphold the reputation of Seakeeper.

-Maintain company vehicle by completing a mileage log and submitting a copy monthly. Ensure that the service vehicle receives scheduled maintenance and service at the regular service intervals and is kept clean in appearance, inside and outside.

-Boat show and trade show support as assigned.

-File all expense reports regularly and in coordination with case completion or as directed.

  • Save and organize all receipts for submission with Expense Reports.

-To carry out service interventions, Field Service Technician must be able to work in confined areas such as engine rooms, equipment spaces, and bilges on board various types of marine vessels.

  • This includes climbing up/down ladders, stooping, bending, lying down, and working in challenging conditions.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Qualified candidates must have at a minimum a high school diploma. A technically relevant education/certification is desired, or 1-3 years related experience in the marine industry. Related experience includes knowledge of boat equipment, boat and trailer towing, boat maintenance and repairs, and all aspects of boat care in addition to experience as a field or repair technician in the marine electrical or mechanical field.

The candidate must have a valid driver’s license with no restrictions.

The candidate must have ability to obtain a valid passport, and be available for travel up to 50% of the time.

Superior customer service skills as well as strong verbal and written professional communication skills are essential. Candidate must be self-motivated, quality focused, deadline oriented, and have strong attention to detail. Must be a team player and work well in a fast-paced environment. Qualified applicant must be professional, responsive, resourceful, flexible, and maintain a positive work attitude. Must be well-organized and practice superior time management. Must be able to multitask, prioritize tasks with minimal supervision, work independently, maintain filing systems and basic databases, gather and analyze information skillfully, and make timely and sound judgment with supporting reasoning for decisions.
